An exquisite new listing came on broker tour this past Friday in Los Altos. It is located in “Old Los Altos” at 711 University Avenue. In my mind it has to be the finest example of an Arts and Crafts era home, both in home, furnishings, and accessories that has come on the Los Altos real estate market in the past 25 years. It is listed by Pat Taylor of Alain Pinel Realtors and is a beautiful example of the Arts and Crafts movement of the early part of the 20th century (approximately 1900-1920).
If you haven’t guessed, I am a huge fan of the Arts and Crafts aesthetic. Simple clean honest lines, natural materials and superior craftsmanship, both in the home’s construction/design, as well as in it’s decor. The home is integrated with period specific quarter sewn oak and cherry furniture, pottery, hand-hammered copper pieces, rugs, wallpaper, lights fixtures and lamps. Normally one would have to travel to Pasadena, Berkeley or Oak Park, Illinois to see such a fine example of the arts and crafts era, but I got to see it on broker tour.
711 University Avenue will sell quickly because it is a rare beautiful home. I just hope the seller leaves the furnishings with the new home owners. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. 711 University Avenue is a 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath home listed for $6,500,000.
