Los Altos plays host to three major events this weekend:
“Rock Back the Clock” is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary. Come to the Rancho Shopping Center this Friday (9/5/08) from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Local merchants will provide food and refreshments and Rens Boorsma of SoundTrax (A classmate of mine at Awalt High) will be playing dance music. Note: Rens has got an unbelievable play list, so don’t be afraid to request your favorite tune. The cost is $5.00 per person and can be purchased on the night of the event near the front of Starbucks. Proceeds from the event go to fund the annual Festival of Lights Parade that is scheduled the Saturday after Thanksgiving in downtown Los Altos.
The seventh annual community picnic will begin at 11:00 a.m. outside the Hillview Community Center. The theme for this year is “All aboard the Picnic Train” and will include a Kid Zone, a concert by Ye Olde Towne Band, county fair type games and the opening ceremony of the Neutra House. Ice cream and popcorn is free and barbecued food will be available for purchase. Better yet, bring your own picnic and then head over to downtown Los Altos for a look at adrenalin pumping fast cars.
Do you like fast cars made of fiberglass? Corvettes perhaps? If you do, you’ll want come to main street in downtown Los Altos for the 2008 Corvette Spectacular Car Show. Cars will begin arriving around 8:30 a.m. and judging will begin at 11:00 a.m. I attended last year and there were some beautiful vehicles. The event is free and I suggest bringing a camera.

The 37th annual Mountain View Art and Wine festival is scheduled this weekend from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The festival will feature over 650 artists, twelve live bands, kids activities, and of course, Tied House beer, wine from eight different wineries and even champagne. Be forwarned, they are expecting crowds of upwards of 200,000.
