One of my new years day traditions is to participate in the fun run that occurs in Los Altos. Participants run, walk, or roller blade five kilometers (4.5 laps) through downtown which has been closed off to car traffic. Click for course map.
I remember running in a similar event on New Year’s Eve(s) at Foothill College. I believe it was called the midnight run and we ran loops around the parking lot. I don’t know why or when, but the midnight runs stopped.
I really like the format of the Los Altos New Year’s Day fun run. It starts at 9:00 a.m., which is not too early. It requires no pre-registration and you can be as competitive as you want. Oh, did I mention that there are snacks after the event.
This year I chose to bring along a video camera to document the race. Check it out below and maybe you’ll get inspired. Maybe, I’ll see you next year at the starting line (or at Peet’s Coffee after the run).
